The goal of our organization is to provide a forum where women in fisheries science can connect, share stories, ask questions, learn from each other, and work together to tackle some of the issues facing women in our field.
History
The Women of Fisheries was originally founded as a private Facebook group on July 26, 2018 under the name “Being Female in Fisheries.” The name was changed on February 5, 2019 to the Women of Fisheries. On January 13, 2020, the group filed to be formally recognized under the State of Florida as a non-profit incorporation. The Women of Fisheries represents over 1,700 women within the fisheries and aquatic sciences field across the globe.
