Outreach Committee

The Women of Fisheries Outreach Committee (formerly the Social Media Committee) meets bimonthly to review and brainstorm content appropriate for our members. We’d love to have your voice on the committee – reach out to women.of.fisheries@gmail.com to get more details.

Maggie Coffey – Chair

Maggie is a freshwater fisheries conservation technician with the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission. Her work focuses on management of Southern Appalachian Brook Trout in the headwaters of western North Carolina.

Maggie joined the Women of Fisheries Outreach Committee because she wanted to connect with other women in the field and have an active role in maintaining a space where women can feel heard and get answers or recommendations. Her favorite part about being on the committee is getting to access her creative side to come up with fun ideas to keep the women of the group engaged and learning about the many roles that women play in the fisheries field.

Heather Moncrief-Cox – Committee Member

Heather is a Senior Research Associate with the University of Miami’s Cooperative Institute for Marine and Atmospheric Sciences (CIMAS), working as an affiliate of the NOAA Fisheries Laboratory in Panama City, Florida. She is the lead of the Reproductive Biology Group, focusing on reef fish and sharks of the Gulf of Mexico and U.S. South Atlantic. She is also a Ph.D. student at the University of Florida, studying the reproductive ecology of lane snapper in U.S. waters, with a focus on investigating new technology for gonad sample analysis.

Rachel Liebman – Committee Member

Rachel Liebman is a fisheries biologist with the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission. She has always loved all things water related and discovered her passion for fisheries back in college. She brings her enthusiasm all across Florida while working on the FWC freshwater fisheries research long-term monitoring crew.  Rachel joined the Women of Fisheries Outreach Committee to get involved and connect with other women about their shared interests. She enjoys sharing her passion and helping to maintain a place for others to share their ideas, concerns, and advice.

Kaylyn Zipp – Committee Member

Kaylyn Zipp (Kay Zipp) is a Ph.D. student at the University of Maine stationed at the Gulf of Maine Research Institute studying Atlantic Bluefin Tuna stock structure and dynamics. Kay joined the Women of Fisheries Outreach Committee to help foster discussions that generate community and exchange of ideas for women of fisheries. Her favorite part about being on the committee is learning about other women’s diverse career paths and perspectives in fisheries.

Social Media Committee members, Emeritus

Alex Norelli

Alex Norelli served on the Outreach Committee as co-chair for over 2 years (2021-2023) while a student at University of Miami. Alex joined the social media committee because the Women of Fisheries Facebook group allowed her to connect with other women scientists and feel like part of a growing community.
